How to Start Undead Blocks: The Free Zombie FPS That Came Back
Undead Blocks is the registry’s zombie-shooter with a genuinely good comeback story: a free-to-play FPS that went quiet, got acquired by Wagyu Games, and relaunched on Avalanche in July 2025 — soft launch live now. The honest split: the whole game is a free download and NFTs are optional cosmetics and loadouts; the earn layer (ZBUX rewards) exists but it’s seasoning, not a salary.
What Undead Blocks is#
A wave-based zombie FPS — squad survival, weapon loadouts, kill-driven progression — first playable May 2022, now in soft launch under new ownership on Avalanche. The relaunch brought the game back after an early-access quiet stretch: original assets minted on Ethereum/Immutable are bridging over, and a published roadmap runs through Q2 2026. Current status sits on the Undead Blocks registry profile — and its acquisition-and-relaunch is one of the working revivals tracked in our comebacks research.
Requirements#
- A Windows or Mac PC — the client is a free download from undeadblocks.com; no console or mobile build.
- A free account — standard signup; the soft launch is open to everyone.
- No wallet required — play, level and survive without ever connecting anything.
- NFT weapons/skins are optional — owning loadout NFTs and earning ZBUX rewards is the optional asset layer, not the entry fee.
The start#
- Download the client from undeadblocks.com — the soft launch build is free; beware lookalike “airdrop” sites around the relaunch.
- Create your account and run the tutorial/intro wave — the loop is classic horde FPS: barricades, weapons, escalating rounds.
- Play a few matches in standard loadouts — scoring, perks and map knowledge matter more than any item you could buy.
- Learn what the earn layer actually pays: ZBUX rewards exist for play, but treat them as a bonus — at current token scale this is a game first and an earn layer second.
- Only if the game itself earns your time: look at the loadout NFT layer (OpenSea/AtomicHub listings) — buy a weapon skin because you like playing, not for the yield.
What the NFT layer actually adds#
- Loadouts you own — weapon skins and character NFTs are tradeable assets rather than account-bound unlocks; original Ethereum/Immutable assets are bridging to the Avalanche relaunch.
- A comeback chain migration — the move to Avalanche under new ownership is itself a documented rescue shape; holding an old Undead Blocks NFT means holding an asset that survived its studio.
- ZBUX rewards — play earns token rewards; the honest read is that they’re worth pocket change, not income.
- It is still a market — an FPS’s skins live and die by the playerbase; a soft-launch player count is early evidence, not a guarantee.
