Square Enix's own NFT project — a story-driven collectible 'game' on Polygon where character NFTs unlocked chapters. Ended as designed: the narrative was built with a planned finale, and three selected players co-determined the conclusion in the final World Mission.
Status note: Service concluded July 31, 2025 — a designed ending, not a failure: Square Enix ran a final season and a World Mission that let three players determine the story's close, then closed the site, English X and Discord on schedule. NFTs remain in holders' wallets and tradable, but the studio warned the IPFS-hosted images may stop displaying once it stops maintaining the pinning — a rare explicit disclosure of the 'game's assets outlive its infrastructure' risk. Mechanism: story-complete finale — the first registry ending where the game ended because its content was built to end.
