State of the Verified Registry

A snapshot of the games currently tracked in the NFTVideoGames Verified Registry — what they run on, how players get in, and where each one sits in its lifecycle. Generated from the registry dataset on 2026-09-25.

How to read this#

The registry is a curated sample of 165 games — titles that met our inclusion criteria and passed a manual verification pass. It is not a survey of the blockchain-gaming market, and nothing here should be read as an industry-wide statistic. Every number below describes these tracked games specifically. Inclusion and verification follow our published methodology; because the sector changes quickly, every record carries a last-verified date and a next-review date.

Registry snapshot#

Unknown 49 of 165 (30%)
Active 45 of 165 (27%)
Shut down 28 of 165 (17%)
Early access 23 of 165 (14%)
Paused 10 of 165 (6%)
Sunset 5 of 165 (3%)
In development 3 of 165 (2%)
Pivoted 2 of 165 (1%)

Access model: “free” is not one thing#

“Free to play” collapses several different models. In the registry we separate free-to-start titles from games where ownership or payment is genuinely required.

Free 83 of 165 (50%)
Free to start 66 of 165 (40%)
Purchase required 16 of 165 (10%)

Wallet friction#

Whether a player needs a crypto wallet at all. Within the tracked registry, wallet-optional onboarding is common — several games use embedded or keyless wallet layers (Immutable Passport, Ronin Waypoint, EVE Vault/zkLogin) so players start with a normal account and touch blockchain only when they own or trade assets.

Wallet optional 95 of 165 (58%)
Required for assets 43 of 165 (26%)
Required to play 21 of 165 (13%)
No wallet 6 of 165 (4%)

Verification freshness#

165 of 165 (100%) tracked games are within their review cadence (active and early-access titles are re-checked every 90 days, paused and sunset every 180, shut down every 365, unknown every 30). Any record that passes its next-review date is flagged on its profile until re-verified.

Limitations#

  • Small sample: n = 165 curated games.
  • Selection bias: the registry includes games that met inclusion criteria — it is not a random or exhaustive sample of the market.
  • Membership changes: composition shifts as games are added or reclassified, so editions are not directly comparable until snapshot history accumulates.
  • Verification cadence: facts are dated, not live — a record is accurate as of its last-verified date.
  • Free-text fields: human-readable detail such as chain_detail and asset_types is reported verbatim; normalized fields (chain, asset_categories) power the aggregated tables.
  • Directional only: this is evidence about a tracked set, not market statistics.

Methodology#

Source data: the NFTVideoGames Verified Registry. Classification and verification rules are documented at how we verify blockchain games. This page is generated directly from the registry dataset — the same records that power the game profiles and collections — so it updates when the registry does.
