How to Start Big Time: Free ARPG, Cosmetics-Only Economy

Big Time is the closest blockchain gaming has to a full action-RPG: a free-to-play, four-class dungeon crawler (time-wizard to shadowblade) that plays like a real game first and only meets crypto at the cosmetics layer. The honest split: download, party up, loot — all free with no wallet; the NFT layer is cosmetic collectibles and the SPACE land system, plus an earn program you can join or ignore entirely.

What Big Time is#

A multiplayer action RPG — procedurally generated dungeons, real-time dodge-and-cast combat, four classes — built by a team that includes veterans of Fortnite, Gears of War and Decentraland, and live in Open Access since October 2023. Its economy runs on the Open Loot platform on Ethereum L2 rails: cosmetic collectible NFTs, SPACE (the game’s land-like workshop areas), hourglasses that let your account earn $BIGTIME, and a monthly Rewards pool program that launched September 14, 2026. Current status sits on the Big Time registry profile.

Requirements#

  • A PC — Big Time runs through the free Open Loot Launcher; the game itself is a real download, not a browser toy. Check the current spec — it’s a modern 3D title, not lightweight.
  • A free Open Loot account — one account covers the launcher, the marketplace and the game; nothing crypto-shaped is asked for up front.
  • A wallet only when you want the economy — needed for withdrawing earned $BIGTIME or buying/selling collectibles on Open Loot Marketplace. Playing without one is complete play.

The start#

  1. Make an Open Loot account and install the launcher — that account is also your marketplace login later, so use a real email.
  2. Download Big Time and run the intro — pick a class (time warrior, chronomancer, shadowblade, quantum fixer) and learn the dodge/cast loop on the early dungeons.
  3. Party up early — Big Time is designed around group dungeons; the in-game party finder is the intended path, and soloing is slower by design.
  4. Loot and decorate before you spend — cosmetic drops and furniture for your SPACE show up in normal play; get a feel for what actually drops before looking at the marketplace.
  5. Understand the earn layer before chasing it — hourglasses equipped to your account are what let runs earn $BIGTIME, and they’re the paid part of the loop. The free game stands alone; the earn loop is an opt-in economy, not the game.

What the NFT layer actually adds#

  • Cosmetics you can actually sell — collectible NFTs are visual items, deliberately not power items; the design keeps “pay-to-win” out and makes the market a style market.
  • SPACE as the owned corner of the game — the land-like areas host your hourglass workshops and utility structures; owning one is the deeper-economy play, and it’s where earn infrastructure lives.
  • A monthly rewards pool — the Big Time Rewards program distributes $BIGTIME to participants monthly (launched September 14, 2026); treat it as a bonus on a game you like, not an income plan — pool sizes and token price both move.
  • Open Loot rails — marketplace, launcher and custody live on the same platform, which removes most of the wallet-juggling other games demand — but also means the economy runs on one operator’s rails.

Safety notes#

The scam pattern here is fake markets, not fake games. Big Time is real and free — so the red flags are “discounted $BIGTIME” or collectible sales on third-party sites, fake Open Loot clones asking you to connect a wallet, and DM “hourglass rental” offers. Only trade inside the official Open Loot Marketplace; the game itself never needs your seed phrase; and beware anyone selling “guaranteed earn” setups — an earn program’s payout depends on pool size and token price, neither of which anyone can promise.
