The Axie Infinity Ecosystem in 2026: Every Game Mapped
“Axie Infinity” stopped being a single game a while ago. In September 2026 it is a cluster of four distinct products on Ronin — one live service, one replaced world, one just handed to its community, and one still in playtests. This is the honest map of what each one is, who maintains it, and what actually happened to it, drawn from the tracked records in our verified registry.
The four pieces, plainly#
Axie Infinity: Origins is the flagship — the actively maintained card-battler. It is active in our registry: Season 18 concluded in early September 2026 with postseason rewards, and the seasonal competitive cycle continues. This is the Axie to start with today; the Origins start guide covers the free path in.
Axie Infinity: Homeland is history — the land-based game was fully sunset on June 17, 2026 and replaced by Terrariums, a land-gameplay successor inside app.axie. Delegation contracts were revoked and no Homeland progression carries over. If a guide online still tells you to start Homeland, it is stale — this is the single biggest stale-info trap in the Axie cluster right now.
Axie Classic is the just-ended era. The original 2018 card-battler — revived on app.axie in 2024 — ran its final official competitive season (Season 16) through September 10, 2026. Sky Mavis has paused regular seasons and active development, and says it intends to hand Classic’s future direction to its community; the handover details are not settled. The game still launches from app.axie today, but its maintenance is no longer Sky Mavis’s — that distinction matters when you decide where to put your time.
Atia’s Legacy is the future bet — Sky Mavis’s full Axie MMO, still in staged playtests: Playtest 2 ran in April 2026 (rebuilt combat, dungeon mode) and Playtest 3 in July 2026 (real-time PvP on iOS, Android and PC). It is in development, not a launched game — anything you read describing it as playable today is conflating a playtest build with a product.
The pattern under the churn#
Two of the four Axie products ended or handed off inside a single quarter of 2026 — Homeland’s clean sunset into Terrariums in June, then Classic’s development pause in September. Neither is a failure story: Sky Mavis is visibly consolidating its effort toward Origins and Atia’s Legacy. But they are a live demonstration of the pattern our endings research documents — a “sunset into a successor” is orderly by design, while a dev-handover leaves the community holding the infrastructure.
For asset holders the differences are concrete: Homeland players lost the game but gained a successor inside the same account system; Classic players keep the game but lose official tournaments and Bounty Board quests — the reward plumbing that made ranked play worth it. The asset-outcomes article explains why those are very different endings to hold through.
What to actually play#
- Want to start today: Origins — free starters, no wallet needed, actively maintained. Setup guide.
- Had Homeland land or progress: check Terrariums on app.axie — it is the successor, not a separate game, and Homeland itself is gone.
- Played Classic: it still launches, but official seasons ended September 10, 2026 — future competitive play is the community’s project, with details not yet announced.
- Waiting on the MMO: Atia’s Legacy playtests are invite-based via Sky Mavis; watch the official Axie channels for the next window rather than third-party “download now” links.
How we track this cluster#
The registry tracks Axie products as separate records — Origins (active, next review December 2026) and Homeland (sunset) — because the brand name tells you nothing about which product is maintained. Axie Classic and Atia’s Legacy are candidates for future records: Classic’s community handover outcome is exactly the kind of status evidence the registry records, and Atia’s Legacy enters verification once it reaches a sustained public build. The full set sits on the verified registry, and the Ronin explainer covers the wallet and market layer all four share.
