Ronin Games Explained for Players: Wallets, Market and the Axie Ecosystem
Ronin is the blockchain built for games — home of Axie Infinity, Pixels, and the infrastructure that ties them together. If you’re entering any Ronin title, this is the shared layer explained once: the wallet, the market, and what changed in 2026.
What Ronin is, at player level#
Ronin is an Ethereum-compatible network developed by Sky Mavis, the studio behind Axie. For players it matters for one reason: it’s where the assets for its games live. Axie characters, Pixels land, token balances and marketplace listings all exist on Ronin — which is why a single Ronin Wallet works across the whole ecosystem.
The Ronin Wallet — when you need it and when you don’t#
You don’t need a wallet to play. Pixels takes email sign-up; Origins gives free non-NFT starter axies on a standard game account. Both are covered in the beginner’s guide.
You need it to own. Ronin Wallet — a browser extension and mobile app from Sky Mavis — is your account for on-chain assets: buying NFT axies, owning Pixels land, listing on the marketplace, signing game transactions. It’s non-custodial: your seed phrase is the keys, so never share it with anyone or any site. The setup fundamentals are covered at NFTUniverse; the practical rule here is simple — get it only from the official Ronin/Sky Mavis pages.
Ronin Market and App.axie#
Ronin Market (the marketplace layer, previously branded Mavis Market) is where Ronin game assets trade — primary launches and secondary sales. App.axie is the Axie-facing hub built on it: the storefront for axies, collectibles and land-related items. In practice, for Axie items you’ll land on App.axie; for the broader Ronin market, Ronin Market. Both sit behind your Ronin Wallet.
The games we track on Ronin#
- Axie Infinity: Origins — active card-battler; start guide.
- Pixels — active farming MMO; start guide.
- Axie Infinity: Homeland — sunset June 2026 (see below).
The Terrariums transition#
2026 reshaped the ecosystem’s centre of gravity: Sky Mavis sunset Homeland on June 17, replacing it with Terrariums, the new persistent land layer where land produces rewards hourly and future systems (mini-games, expeditions, accessories) plug in. Homeland progress didn’t carry over; rewards and delegation transitioned automatically. It’s a live example of an ecosystem changing under players’ feet — and why status checking is a habit worth having before buying into any game’s asset layer.
Where it stands for a new player#
Ronin’s two biggest verified games are also the two easiest entries we track. Start free on either (Pixels profile · Origins profile), learn the game, and only pick up a Ronin Wallet when you actually want to own something — that’s the order that costs you nothing.
