How to Start Playing Defi Kingdoms

DeFi Kingdoms is one of the longest-lived blockchain games — an RPG/economy hybrid that’s survived its own chain migration once and is mid-way through a second. The important part for starting now: the game’s dedicated chain just sunsetting is infrastructure news, not a shutdown. Here’s the current path in.

The one thing to know first#

DeFi Kingdoms is migrating its infrastructure again. The dedicated DFK Chain (an Avalanche subnet) is scheduled to retire on August 28, 2026, with assets moving to the Avalanche C-Chain and a developer SDK opening alongside. The game itself remains live — this is a plumbing change, not an ending. But it means anything you read describing DFK-Chain-era wallets, RPCs or marketplaces as current is dated.

Requirements#

  • A browser — the game runs in-browser at the official domain.
  • A wallet — required for real play — you can browse without one, but hero NFTs and the economy need a connected Avalanche-compatible wallet.
  • Assets for meaningful play — hero NFTs are the core playable unit; pets, land plots and equipment extend it. JEWEL is the economy token (mechanics only — we don’t track prices).

The starter path#

  1. Open defikingdoms.com and explore the interface — marketplace, hero browser, quest map — before connecting anything.
  2. Set up an Avalanche-compatible wallet and connect it to view your asset layer.
  3. For actual play, acquire a hero NFT via the in-game marketplace or OpenSea — one budget hero is the standard entry.
  4. Start with quests before touching the deeper DeFi mechanics (gardens, liquidity layers) — they’re optional, not required to play.

What the assets do#

Hero NFTs are characters with classes and stats that quest and generate. Pets, land plots and equipment are secondary layers. JEWEL runs across the whole economy. The registry profile carries the full asset list; what game NFTs actually do explains the ownership mechanics.

The 2026 context#

This is the record’s second migration — it originally launched on Harmony (the Serendale realm) and moved to its own Avalanche subnet; now that subnet is retiring in favour of the C-Chain. A game that has migrated infrastructure twice and kept running is the opposite of the abandoned-record pattern — it’s the “the chain changed, the game didn’t” class the chain-survival research documents. Verify the C-Chain landing worked as announced before buying assets on any older layer.

Safety notes#

Defikingdoms.com only, and follow the in-site migration notices. Chain sunsets are prime phishing season — fake “migrate your assets now” pages prey on exactly this transition. The real migration path is described in the official docs; nobody legitimate asks for your seed phrase.
