How to Start The Machines Arena — Free Hero Shooter, First Ronin Game on Steam

The Machines Arena is a free 4v4 hero shooter you can grab on Steam or Android right now — it’s also the first Ronin-chain game ever released on Steam. The whole game plays without a wallet; the NFT side is cosmetic skins you can mint and trade, entirely optional.

What The Machines Arena is#

A fast 4v4 top-down hero shooter from Directive Games — pick a machine with a role, fight over objectives, done in minutes. It’s been in open beta since April 2024, hit Steam on January 14, 2025 (a Ronin-chain first), and a PS5 version is in development. Honest caveat: a $TMA token has been announced but not launched — anything promising TMA rewards today isn’t real.

Requirements#

• Steam or Epic (Windows), or an Android device — free on all of them.
• No wallet, no purchase. An Epic Games-style account flow is as deep as onboarding gets to start.

The start#

1. Install from Steam, Epic, or the official site’s Android download (themachinesarena.com/download-game) — it’s free. Android isn’t on Google Play; the real build comes straight from the developer.
2. Play the intro missions to learn a couple of machines before queueing.
3. Jump into casual 4v4; ranked and seasonal modes unlock as you level.
4. Optional: if you later want a skin you own as an NFT, the mint happens inside the game’s own flow — no external wallet needed for that either.

What the NFT layer adds#

• Mintable cosmetic skins — certain earned/earnable skins can be minted as NFTs on Ronin and traded on the Mavis market. They change looks, not power.
• Ronin under the hood — minting uses Ronin, but the game abstracts it; you don’t need a Ronin wallet unless you want to take skins out to marketplaces yourself.
• $TMA (announced, not launched) — the token doesn’t exist yet; treat any “TMA airdrop” or token sale as fake.
