The Six Dragons is a free open-world RPG in public alpha on the Epic Games Store — a genuinely huge 256km² fantasy map you can explore without spending anything or touching a wallet. The honest framing: it’s a still-in-development alpha with an optional Enjin NFT layer, and it’s one of the friendlier walletless starts in the registry.

What The Six Dragons is#

An open-world fantasy RPG built by indie studio BlockPegnio — one of the earliest blockchain-integrated PC games, live in alpha for years. The pitch is scale: a 256km² world, over a billion procedurally generated dungeons, 300+ craftable items, farming, harvesting, enchanting and boss fights. It’s deliberately multi-chain — Enjin ecosystem roots (ERC-1155 items), an Immutable integration, and a third chain chosen by player vote — but the blockchain stays optional: the Epic build plays as a normal free RPG, and the Steam page now lists a Q4 2026 release target.

Requirements#

  • A Windows PC and the Epic Games Store client — the alpha is free to download and play.
  • No wallet, no purchase. Crafted and enchanted items, dragon mounts and Guild Emblem NFTs are all optional extras.
  • An Enjin wallet only enters if you decide to mint, hold or trade game items as NFTs.

The start#

  1. Find The Six Dragons on the Epic Games Store (or via thesixdragons.com — go through the official site to dodge impersonators) and install the free alpha build.
  2. Create a character and pick a starting class — the alpha is the full open world: roam, gather, fight and dungeon-dive without limits.
  3. Use the crafting and enchanting systems as you progress — most progression is ordinary gameplay, no chain involved.
  4. Optional: if you want your crafted items or mounts to be ownable/tradable NFTs, connect an Enjin wallet inside the game. Playing never requires it.

What the NFT layer adds#

  • Crafted and enchanted items — your gear can be minted as ERC-1155 NFTs you actually own and can trade.
  • Dragon mounts — rare mounts exist as NFTs for those who want them; gameplay mounts exist without the chain too.
  • Guild Emblem NFTs — guilds of 10+ members earn evolving emblem NFTs that track activity across the Enjin ecosystem (the Guilds feature shipped March 2025).
  • No token — unusually for this genre, there’s no game cryptocurrency to buy: the NFT layer is items, not coins.

Safety notes#

Three honest warnings. First, it’s an alpha — bugs, wipes and balance churn are part of the deal; don’t treat progress as permanent. Second, the “Q4 2026” Steam target is a target: this project has a long development history, so judge it by what’s playable now rather than the roadmap. Third, the game itself never asks for a seed phrase — only connect a wallet inside the official client, and ignore “Six Dragons airdrop” or free-NFT claims in DMs; no such official campaign exists.
