How to Start Playing Pixels: Setup, Land and What the Assets Do
Pixels is the easiest verified blockchain game to start in 2026: a farming and life sim that runs entirely in your browser, takes an email sign-up, and doesn’t require a wallet unless you want to own assets. Here’s the practical path from zero to playing.
What Pixels is#
Pixels is a pixel-art farming and social MMO on the Ronin network — crops, crafting, quests and a shared world, closer to a classic farming sim than to anything resembling trading software. Its live status, chain and ownership facts are on the Pixels registry profile, which we verify on a schedule rather than repeating here.
Requirements#
- A web browser — the game runs at play.pixels.xyz; nothing to install.
- An account — sign up with email/phone or connect a Ronin Wallet. Email sign-up is the zero-friction path.
- Ronin Wallet — optional — only needed once you want to own land/pets or interact with on-chain features. The Ronin explainer covers the wallet layer.
The free start vs the owned-land start#
Every player begins the same way: create a character, run the tutorial quests around Terra Villa, then claim a free Speck — a small personal farming plot. Specks are deliberately limited: modest yield, basic farming only — but they teach the loop and cost nothing.
Owned NFT farms sit above that: larger plots with resources that can’t be found on free land. There’s also a middle path — sharecropping on someone else’s NFT farm to reach the higher-tier resources without buying land. You never need land to access the game itself.
What the assets do#
- Land (NFT farms) — bigger yield and exclusive resources; the headline ownable asset.
- Pets and VIP passes — utility NFTs tied to gameplay benefits.
- Berry — the in-game currency used for everyday activity.
- PIXEL — the ecosystem’s utility/governance token; descriptive only — this site doesn’t cover prices or earning claims.
For what ownership means mechanically — custody, marketplaces, what happens to assets if a game dies — see what game NFTs actually do.
Worth knowing in 2026#
Two ecosystem changes are recent. The Pixels team open-sourced the game client in July 2026 and launched a community hub for player-built tools, voting and bounties — unusual for the genre. And Stacked, the team’s cross-game rewards app, is live on Ronin for players who want rewards tracked in one place. Neither changes the free start, but they’re part of where the game is heading.
